Multi Modality: passing fad or is it here to stay?

Professor Freek Beekman calls Gijs Ockeloen at least once every two months because he is thinking of an upgrade to the USpect small animal Gamma Camera KVD designed for his company. Today they discussed the pro’s and con’s of Multi Modality Devices. As usual the professor wants to have the new toy displayed at the Society of Nuclear Medicine Annual Meeting in June… Originally the U-SPECT was designed as a SPECT imaging device: Three Gamma detectors capture radiation patterns emitted form small rodents that have been injected with tracer molecules. A CT scanner option was added in 2007 enabling the scientist to superimpose CT images on SPECT images. But in 2010, apparently dual modality is not enough for the demanding researcher…
