Negative Emotion Typology

A rich and varied database about the nuances of negative emotions

PhD Steven Fokkinga researched in his thesis, how negative emotions positively contribute to user-product interactions. To facilitate the knowledge about specific negative emotions within the design field, Steven commissioned Reframing Studio to design a database containing information about 36 negative emotions.

The database contains a definition and in depth information about the characteristics of each specific emotion, including its possible causes and experiential and behavioral effects. The textual data is enriched with both graphics and movies representing a specific emotion.

This tool is an initiative of the Delft Institute of Positive Design, part of the Delft University of Technology. The research was supported by CRISP.
